K2 Dance Academy provides professional tuition by qualified teachers in the following dance disciplines for children:

TOTS CLASSES

Independent classes for dancers who are happy to come into class without their adults staying with them. We will be working on building co-ordination, performance and understanding the basic concepts of dance and working to develop basic steps and movements and beginning to develop short combinations of steps. Classes are available for children as they approach their 3rd Birthday, in both Acro and Ballet (commonly know as “Baby Ballet”).

BALLET

This classical style of dance encompasses the grace, poise and movements reminiscent of the theatre. Starting with building up simple routines for performances and Rosette group examinations and moving on to grades and medal tests as the children grow in confidence and ability. As dancers’ technique and strength reach the required standards in higher grades, Pointe Work classes become available. 

TAP

Feeling the rhythm and learning the moves, Tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals. The IDTA has a fantastic Tap Syllabus with medal test examinations held for children. Tap is a gentle, rhythmical and enjoyable way to keep fit!

THEATRE CRAFT

This most exciting dance form encompasses the wide spectrum of productions that are Musical Theatre. Shows like Grease, The Lion King, West Side Story, all diverse styles but all embraced by the Theatre Craft Title. A dance form for theatrical performance, preparing the body physically through exercise and stimulating artistic ability through dance movement, improvisation and interpretation of music. Theatre Craft provides all the ‘must have’ qualities for today’s dancer. 

ACRO DANCE

Suppleness, strength and flexibility are the key to fantastic Acro. Progressing through the floor work based syllabus Children can develop their skills from forward rolls through to splits, bridges and walkovers to name a few, using combinations of exercises and dance to create a unique style. Following the syllabus set out by Acrobatic Arts and the IDTA for progressive training for children of all abilities. 

CHEERLEADING

A high energy, fun filled class with poms, cheers and simple stunts create a cheer squad. Sharp moves with fast tempo dances and a big voice and tonnes of “spirit” help to make cheerleading great fun and great teamwork. You will need to be full of enthusiasm ready for hard work and dedication to be a cheerleader. Classes work on building up group routines for performance and examinations.

STREET DANCE

Girls and boys aged 6 + join a fun class full of stretching and conditioning and choreography to not just the latest songs in the charts but also some old school classic hits in this popular exciting dance style developing routines for performance and group examinations. Join in this high energy fun filled class to learn all the latest moves as Street Dance is a broad spectrum of styles brought together to create dynamic routines. 

CONTEMPORARY & CONTEMPORARY JAZZ

Contemporary dance class is a fantastically versatile style of dance. Contemporary dance draws on both classical ballet and modern dance offering a creative freedom not found in a other dance class. With the focus on technique and performance this is a great style for anyone wanting to increase their dance repertoire. 

MUSICAL THEATRE

A fusion of all modern music and dance styles, Musical Theatre takes you to inspirational heights. Singing and dancing to top songs from the best musicals. The spotlight’s on you! Open to boys and girls with lots of performance opportunities throughout the year. 

IRISH RIVERDANCE

This iconic dance style with little upper body movement, precise and quick foot movement builds dancers technique, stamina and style as they develop both of and hard shoe styles of this fast and energetic dance style. For dancers age 7 and over who want a to learn creative routines for exams and performance to challenge for their bodies and minds. 

P.B.T BALLET STRENGTHENING

Open to pupils’ Grade 2 Ballet or above this Progressing Ballet Technique class will be working on developing muscle memory and technique strength as the pupils develop their ballet technique and strength looking towards Pointe work. The class is based on exercises using a fit ball, resistance bands and yoga mat using the highly praised Progressing Ballet Technique syllabus with exercises specifically for developing ballet technique.
